Everybody loves food trucks. Heck, everybody loves food. So get your supper on tonight at the TRUCKtoberfest event in Louisville! Seven food trucks will be available to choose from: El Rumbon (Cuban food), Holy Mole Tacos, Lil Cheesers, San Diego Sandwich Works, Red's Comfort Foods, The Dessert Truck, and Holy Smokes Barbecue. (Holy Smokes was here at Keller Williams' parking lot two days ago, and our agents were raving about how good it was!)

There will also be a live band and cash bar.

This has been a popular Halloween event in Louisville for many years. Danger Run is a haunted adventure game you play in your car. You are given clues to find two of Louisville's haunted houses. Admission includes the game, the two haunted houses, a free cheeseburger from Dairy Queen, and free vampire fangs. For more information call 1-800-771-9750.

Not-So-Halloweenie Things to Do in Louisville for October 2011

October always brings its fair share of things to do in Louisville, but most of them involve haunted houses, pumpkin patches, trick-or-treating, or anything involving Halloween. Watching acrobats is always fun - but this company has been doing this for over 60 years! This is their first ever tour of America, so don't miss it!  The show runs for approximately 90 minutes. For more information call 502-562-0152.

 Waterfront Heritage Walks with Historian Rick Bell

Explore the history of Louisville's riverfront and the development of the Waterfront Park. The tour will begin at the Belle of Louisville and end at the Lincoln Memorial, and lasts approximately 90 minutes. A treat for Oldham County! Both registration & food proceeds benefit WHAS Crusade for Children. Get some beans & cornbread or hot dogs/hamburgers. It will be fun for the kids to dress up in costume and trick-or-treat from car to car, visit the haunted forest, and play games!

Lots of free activities for kids! Fire Safety House, Electrical Safety Demonstration (meet Louie the Lightning Bug), Stranger Danger & Personal Safety Demonstration, Sit Inside Police Cars, Ambulances, & Fire Trucks, Child Fingerprinting, Bounce Houses, and Trick-or-Treating. Also available are chili & hot dog dinner, games, hay rides, and costume contest through age 12.

Halloween Events for Kids in Louisville 2011

Halloween brings out the kid in everyone! But we wanted to show you some kid-friendly Halloween events that are happening this year (2011) in Jefferson and Oldham Counties in Kentucky.
This will actually be a two-part series...next time we will be posting events on the next post that are more geared for the adults! Feel free to bookmark and refer to it this Halloween season.

The World's Largest Halloween Party at the Louisville Zoo
October 7-9, 13-16, 20-23 and 27-30 - Enter from 5 until 8:30 p.m.
If you're a member of the Louisville Zoo, lucky you! You'll get free admission for the first two weeks, and $4.00 after that. All us other mere mortals will pay $8.00. Meijer has them for $6.50.
There will be over 15 storybook scenes all over the zoo, plus lots of characters running about. Kids, there will be trick-or-treating for kids age 11 and under - bring your own treat bag!
Optional attractions you can pay extra for are the Not-So-Haunted Carousel, Zip Line over Pirate's Cove, Sky Trail® Adventures Ropes Course, and the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow Tour.

Each Friday and Saturday in October 2011-Dusk to Midnight
Located at 6516 Echo Trail in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, Cobb's Haunt's 11-acre cornfield maze is probably for kids that are older. However, on October 15, 2011 from noon to 8:00 pm, they are having a pumpkin festival which is appropriate for children of all ages.
They will offer pumpkin carving, farm market, petting zoo, hayrides, and much more in addition to the maze for the older kids. Admission is free - $5.00 for the corn maze.

Norton Healthcare Haunted Halls
Friday, October 29, 2011 - 6:00-7:30 pm
At Norton Community Medical Associates - Tyler Retail Village on 12615 Taylorsville Road, Suite A (across from St. Michael Church), there will be trick-or-treating, plus a treasure map to get stamped at each retailer. One guest will receive a grand prize to be announced a week later. Admission is free.
This year they have also extended Haunted Halls to Kosair Children's Medical Center - Brownsboro, 4910 Chamberlain Lane near Costco. (This is easier to get to from Oldham County.) It will be held Saturday, October 30, 2011 from 4:00-5:30 pm.

Make Your Own Halloween Mask at The Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind
Saturday, October 22, 2011 - 10:00 am-12:00 noon
This one could be a lot of fun - take your kids to make their own Halloween masks! Museum staff will guide your children (participants can be all ages - you can make one too!) and abilities as they make a scary or friendly Halloween masks and headdresses using tactile materials. Free to the public but registration is required. Call 502-899-2213 by October 20 to register. Located at 1839 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville KY 40206. Go and have a spooky good time!

Caulfield's Halloween Parade
Friday, October 14, 2011 - 7:00 pm
Halloween Parade - image courtesy of Joe MazzolaThis parade starts at the back of the Mid City Mall on Bardstown Road and ends at the Baxter Avenue Morgue. =) You can be in the parade by having a float, decorating your car, marching with a banner, rollerskates, unicycles, stilt walkers..be creative! It's free to be in it but you have to register. Or, you and your kids can just jump in at the end of the parade, but they still prefer you register. You can hand out commercial materials (brochures, buttons, coupons, fliers, etc.) for a $50 registration fee, which goes to benefit Home of the Innocents. Or, just bring your lawn chairs and watch the parade for free! Call 502-292-3033 for details.

Sunday, October 23, 2011 - 2:00-4:00 pm
This is more than just pumpkin decorating. Meet some of Blackacre's early settlers and hear about how they lived. There will also be buggy rides.
Admission is free and pumpkins cost $2 each. Blackacre State Nature Preserve and Historic Homestead is located at 3200 Tucker Station Road. For more information call Lydia at 502-266-9802.
