Summertime's Here! Let's Go Swimming in Oldham County!


Go to fullsize imageYou need to look no further for something fun to do this weekend. The John W. Black Aquatic Center in Buckner, KY (Oldham County) is officially opening Saturday, May 28!

This pool is huge and your kids will love it! It has a lap pool, a kid's pool with a large umbrella spout showering water, a diving board, and even a sliding board!

Pool hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 12-7 pm, and Sundays 1-6 pm through September 10. Admission is as follows:
  • Ages 13-59       $5.00
  • Ages   3-12       $4.00
  • Ages 60 & up    $3.00
  • Ages 2 & under  FREE
If you enjoy yourself and think you'll be going a lot, you can get a summer pool pass to save money. Family of 4 - $250.00, Family of 3 - $200.00, Family of 2 - $150.00, Individual 13 & up - $100.00, and Senior - $90.00. The pool can be rented on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings - call 502-225-0656 for reservations and prices.

Go to fullsize imageThere are rules..you must age 13+ to enter alone. You must be 42" tall with swimming skills to go down the slide. You cannot bring coolers, food, or glass. (There is a snack bar available to purchase food and drinks.) If the pool is closed due to weather, NO REFUNDS.

Beginning Wednesday, June 1, you may participate in water fitness classes - 8 classes for $36.00. No swimming skills are needed, and you can even keep your hair dry! Or you can have swim lessons $54.00 for six lessons. There is always a 4th of July celebration beginning at 2:00 pm with singing, flag ceremony, pool races, greased watermelon dive, and fireworks at 10:00 in adjoining Wendell Moore Park. There is always something fun to do in Oldham County, KY!

Third Thursday Concert Series at Yew Dell Gardens, Oldham County KY

For all you music lovers in Oldham County KY, the Yew Dell Gardens will be hosting this month's Third Thursday Concert Series on May 19, 2011 at 7:00-8:30 pm.

This month's series features the band Appalatin, which is a unique blend of Latino, Appalachian, and world folk music, and includes original songs written by the band members. All the instruments used by the band are acoustic.

You can even come early for a picnic on the grounds. (The Red Pepper Cafe in Crestwood can deliver a boxed dinner for you if you call Red Pepper at 502-241-8280. )

The concert will be held in the Gheens Barn at Yew Dell Gardens, 6220 Old LaGrange Road , Crestwood, Kentucky. Cost will be $20, or $15 for members. For more information call Yew Dell Gardens at 502-241-4788.

Weekend in Agrabah

There's a party in Agrabah! Well, technically, at the Oldham County Schools Arts Center in Crestwood, Kentucky. The Youth Theatre program under the direction of Kathie Davis presents, "Aladdin Jr."

Performances are open to the public on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, May 14, 2011 will have two performances, one at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm. Tickets are only $8.

You'll see all your favorite characters on the stage, including Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Genie. They will be performing all your favorite Aladdin songs such as "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me." I know you'll want to sing along!

Do You Feel Like Kicking Something?

Do you feel like kicking something? Well, here's something you can kick around without being so destructive - a kickball! That sounds like a fun thing to do

In Oldham County, the Oldham County Parks & Recreation will be holding an Adult Co-ed Kickball League on Monday evenings beginning May 23, 2011. There will be a mandatory Captains Meeting May 18 at 6:30 at the John W. Black Community Center

League fees are $200.00 for a team of 10 players. (That's not so bad - $20.00 a person!) Teams are guaranteed up to 9 games and a single elimination tournament. League and tournament winners will receive T-shirts. All games will be played at the Wendell Moore softball complex.
