2011 Adult Tennis Lessons in Oldham County KY

Registration has already begun!

Wouldn't tennis be a fun thing to do this summer in Oldham County? (You don't have to be a resident to participate.) The Oldham County Parks & Recreation is offering beginning tennis lessons at Wendell Moore Park on Friday evenings from 6:30 to 7:15 pm. From June 17 to July 22, you will meet once a week for those six weeks.

If you an adult and you would like to play tennis in Oldham County, fill out this registration form and return to Oldham County Parks and Recreation with payment of $36. Send it to 1551 N. Hwy. 393, LaGrange, KY 40031.

Oldham County KY Spring/Summer 2011 Adult Softball Leagues

It's time for hot dogs, apple pie, and softball! Oldham County, Kentucky has just the remedy for you grown-ups itching to get out there and get some fun exercise. Hurry, registration ends today at 4:00 pm. There is a mandatory captain's meeting Thursday, April 21 at 6:30 where you must send a representative of your team. 
 
 
Spring/Summer 2011 Softball Leagues are for adults. Tuesdays are Coed, Thursdays are Men's Recreational, and Fridays are both Men's Recreational and Men's Competitive. Game times are 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, and 9:30 pm.
 
League fees are $375.00 to be paid by check to the Oldham County Parks & Recreation. The signup form must accompany this check. League play begins the week of April 25. For more details check out the information and sign-up sheet. Happy playing!

Ovarian cancer accounts for approximately 3% of cancers in women. A woman's lifetime risk of developing invasive ovarian cancer is 1 in 71. A woman's lifetime risk of dying from invasive ovarian cancer is 1 in 95. (http://www.ovarianawarenessofky.org/OvarianStatistics.pdf)

The Irish Rover Too, 117 East Main Street in LaGrange, KY (Oldham County), will be hosting the 4th Annual Blue Hydrangea Progressive Tea Party this coming Sunday, April 17, 2011 from 1:00-5:00 pm (check-in is at 12:30). This event will help raise awareness for ovarian cancer as well as support the resource center Ovarian Awareness of Kentucky (O.A.K.), which will get 100% of the proceeds.

There will be shopping, entertainment, door prizes, and delicious teas and snacks. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Call Linda Goins 502-269-0126 or

Love Nature? You'll Love These 2 Oldham County Weekend Events!

There is nothing better than being out in nature on a sunny day! Hopefully it will be sunny this Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1:00 pm for the Wildflower Hike at the Oldham County Morgan Conservation Park on Hwy. 524. 

On this guided walk, you will see many native Kentucky wildflowers and many interesting species of birds. This walk is open to the public it's free, so bring all your friends! Call Gary at 502-225-0655 for more information.

Another wildflower event to attend the following weekend will be at Creasy Mahan Nature Preserve's Nature Center. It is just east of the Metro Louisville area, easily accessible from U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road turns into US 42), off Highway 1793 (near the North Oldham school campus).

The "Wildflower Open House Saturday" will be Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. There will be a wildflower expert there to tell you stories about the uses and history of flowers. It is a free event and there will also be free crafts for the kids!

So You Want To Learn How To Dance?

DANCE CLASSES FOR ALL LEVELS in Oldham County KY! This is a fabulous opportunity to be taught by a professional MTV Award-Winning choreographer! LaVelle Smith, Jr.'s past clients include Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and the Rolling Stones. Individuals, dance studios, teams, and teachers are welcome.

First, there will be a Master Class for everyone on Saturday, April 16. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. or call 502-241-6018 to pre-register. This will be held at the Oldham County Arts Center in Crestwood, KY and will last 10:30 a.m. - noon. This class will cost $35.

At this class you will have the opportunity to register for Dance Camp June 20 - 24, 2011. Lavelle and others will be holding classes where students get to rotate classes and teachers for a thrilling dance experience. You can go half days 9:00 - noon for $125 with a $50 deposit, or full days 9:00 - 3:00 p.m. for $195 with a $50 deposit. You can also observe for $45.

There are four levels:
  • Junior students - Ages 8-12 (little to no dance experience)
  • Teen students - Ages 12 & up
  • Senior students - Ages 13 & up (for advanced & experienced dancers)
  • Teacher/adults - Minimum age 18
Students participating in the dance camp will receive camp t-shirts, plus scholarships and door prizes will be given away. For more information call the Oldham County Arts Center at 502-241-6018.
